A 25-year-old man died early Saturday in a solo vehicle crash in Copperopolis, California Highway Patrol staff in San Andreas said Monday.
The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. April 3 on O’Byrnes Ferry Road south Cosmic Court, according to a CHP crash report distributed Monday.
A man identified as Christan Nelson, of Copperopolis, was driving a gray 2006 Ford F-250 south on O’Byrnes Ferry Road and allowed the truck to drift to the right, the CHP report states.
Nelson’s truck went off the pavement and onto the shoulder, where Nelson made an unsafe turning movement and lost control, according to the release. The truck crossed over the northbound lane of O’Byrnes Ferry Road, off the road, and struck a utility pole.
The pickup began overturning, went through a wire fence, and continued overturning several times.
Nelson apparently was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the pickup. He died of his injuries at the crash scene.
The CHP was investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, the release said.
