Sonora police are seeking information on the whereabouts of a 30-year-old man who is suspected of stabbing another man Saturday in the parking lot of a motel on Stockton Road.

Police Chief Turu VanderWiel sent an email Wednesday morning identifying Raleigh J. Brown as the man they are looking for in connection with the stabbing.

VanderWiel cautioned the public not to contact Brown and to instead contact the department if they see him.

Brown was described as about 5-foot-6 and 190 pounds, with blonde to light brown hair and blue eyes.

VanderWiel said they have an address for Brown on Stockton Road based on recent contacts, but they believe he recently came to the area from out of state.

Officers responded to a reported stabbing about 1 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Sonora Gold Lodge on Stockton Road.

A 28-year-old man was reportedly stabbed multiple times in the torso and taken to Adventist Health Sonora by a good samaritan before officers arrived at the scene.

VanderWiel said the victim got into an argument with two women before the stabbing occurred.

Another man associated with one of the women got involved and at one point pulled out a “cutting and/or stabbing instrument” that he used to stab the victim, VanderWiel said.

The victim’s injuries were reportedly not life threatening.

VanderWiel said on Monday that it was believed to be an isolated incident and not a random act.
