A crash between a Ford Mustang leaving a private driveway onto Highway 4 and an oncoming Chevrolet Camaro resulted in the death of a Menlo Park man on Sunday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol - San Andreas Area Officer Eric Parsons said investigators were still unsure if the Menlo Park man, Dan Tzur, 60, the sole occupant of the 2002 Ford Mustang, was residing at property with the private driveway west of Stockton Road or if he was using the driveway to turn around.
According to the CHP, Tzur was driving southbound in the driveway at about 2:55 p.m. and preparing to make a left turn into the eastbound lane of Highway 4.
Tzur entered into the roadway directly in the path of an oncoming, westbound 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, occupied by driver Matthew Steele, 42, of Hayward, and passenger Kristina Steele, 40, of Hayward.
The front of the Chevrolet, which was traveling at an unknown speed, crashed into the left side of the Ford. The crash caused the Ford to spin and cross over the eastbound lane, eventually coming to rest on the south side of Highway 4. The Chevrolet stopped in the westbound lane.
The collision took place approximately 1,670 feet west of Stockton Road, Parsons said.
Matthew and Kristina Steele were transported to Modesto Memorial Hospital for treatment of major and moderate injuries, respectively.
Tzur was pronounced dead at the scene.
Parsons said he was not aware of any witnesses to the collision who knew Tzur or where he was coming from.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the collision.
The collision remains under investigation.
