Locals were tempted to call it downright balmy Thursday at Columbia State Historic Park as hundreds gathered for the annual Glorious Fourth celebration and parade. Under sunny skies — and a far cry from the 110-degree record for this day set in 1961 — 32 entries made their way along the park’s main street. This year’s grand marshall and goddess of liberty were Jim and Rosie Napier.

After the noontime parade, the park hosted a flurry of activities including a greased pole contest, watermelon eating contest and plenty of barbecue plates and shaved ice.
