An unidentified property owner was cited for an escaped debris fire that occurred Tuesday, a Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit spokesperson said.
The fire was reported at 12:26 p.m. May 14 in the vicinity of Morgan Drive near White Gulch Road, north of Highway 120 and east of downtown Groveland.
Fire Chief Andrew Murphy with Groveland Community Services District reported at 1:12 p.m. there were four engine crews on scene of a vegetation fire and the fire was contained.
Cal Fire and Tuolumne County Fire personnel along with Groveland CSD firefighters had more than 25 people on scene total. A pilot in an air attack spotter plane was also assigned. About a half-acre of grass burned. 100 percent containment was declared at 2:17 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The cause was determined to be an escaped debris fire. The property owner who was cited was not identified. It was not clear from Cal Fire and Groveland CSD accounts whether the property owner will be billed for the costs of suppressing the fire, including the multi-engine response and air attack flight time.
