It was a dramatic scene at Heritage Inn when a guest crashed into an unoccupied room with her Honda Pilot.
The SUV jumped a retaining wall just before 7 p.m. Thursday and careened halfway into the room. The driver was still sitting inside the vehicle when a Sonora Police patrol officer arrived. The department did not name the officer.
The driver told the officer she was parking and hit the gas rather than the brake. The officer thought otherwise after helping her get out of the vehicle.
A news release from the Police Department said he noticed signs of intoxication and after field sobriety tests, arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Cited was 61-year-old Susan Steinmetz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and booked at the Tuolumne County Jail.
“Thankfully nobody was injured during this incident,” the police press release said.
