When wildflowers start popping up on Table Mountain it’s just a matter of time until they show in the Red Hills outside Chinese Camp. On Saturday there were new flowers and blossoms coming out burnt-orange, yellow-gold, purple-violet, and snow-white.

Streams were flowing and vivid-colored lichens were visible on exposed rocks. The 7,100-acre Red Hills Recreation Management Area, also known as the Red Hills Area of Critical Environmental Concern, is open daily, has about 17 miles of trails, and it’s run by the federal Bureau of Land Management.
