The Calaveras County Water District, which provides water to more than 13,000 residential, commercial and municipal customers, has named an interim general manager, Jeffrey Meyer, who replaces the outgoing general manager, Dave Eggerton.

Joel Metzger, CCWD’s manager of external affairs, conservation and grants, made the announcement Wednesday after the elected board of directors named Meyer to begin his work as interim general manager on Oct. 15.

Eggerton, who accepted a job in late September as executive director for the Association of California Water Agencies, works his last day at CCWD on Oct. 31.

Meyer has been with CCWD for 10 years and his job right now is district director of administrative services.

The CCWD five-member board of directors has started a formal recruiting process for the district’s next permanent general manager, Metzger said. Candidate interviews are expected to begin before the end of this year.

In prepared remarks Scott Ratterman, the CCWD board president, said he expects CCWD won’t miss a beat under Meyer’s leadership because Meyer is familiar with the district and the board has full confidence in him.

Eggerton said he has total confidence in Meyer and described him as “an incredibly talented professional” who knows CCWD inside out.

The Calaveras County Water District provides water in six service areas, and it provides sewer service to more than 4,800 customers in 12 service areas.

The district is billed as a political subdivision of the state of California and it is a revenue-neutral public agency responsible for resource planning and service delivery for water and energy facilities it owns or operates. It has not-for-profit status and so it has no private shareholders, it pays no dividends, and therefore it does not report to or answer to the state Public Utilities Commission.

The Calaveras County Water District is called a county water district, relative to the service area of the entire county, but it is independent of county government. Elected board members serve alternating four-year terms.
