Pacific Gas and Electric Co. will shut off the power to 869 customers in the downtown Sonora area from about 9 p.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday to replace a pole on Theall Street.

Theall Street between Barretta Street and Dodge Lane will also be closed from about 8 p.m. Monday to about 7 a.m. Tuesday.

“We’re doing this work at night because of the large customer count and because we need to de-energize the power to safely change out the pole,” said PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Merlo. “The city knows and emergency services are also aware.”

Merlo said the outage will affect customers mostly in the downtown and northern parts of the city.

Customers in the area were notified in a letter sent by PG&E in late May.

Five of the affected customers were notified in the letter that their power would be out until about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
