A Woodbridge man was arrested by Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office detectives on suspicion of child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after a Valley Springs girl that had been missing for four days was found at his home.
Detectives had conducted multiple interviews since the disappearance of Samantha Roberts, 15, from her Valley Springs home on the 8000 block of Baldwin Street, and determined she may have entered into a dating relationship with an man who lived in San Joaquin County.
The girl was found about 3:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence in Woodbridge, San Joaquin County, a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office press release stated.
The resident was located at his place of work in Lodi and was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The 15-year-old Valley Springs girl was reported missing Monday afternoon after a backpack and some of her clothing were discovered gone from her home.
Samantha Roberts, 15, was last seen about 9 p.m. Sunday at her home and was reported missing at 2:25 p.m. Monday.
Potential sightings of the missing girl had come from Calaveras and San Joaquin counties and as far away as Sacramento.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office initially received a report that Roberts was seen at the Murphys Shell Station at 2:12 p.m. Monday. Surveillance footage showed a young girl who was believed to be Roberts getting into a newer model gray four-door SUV with a roof rack and panoramic sunroof. The Calaveras County County Sheriff’s Office has since debunked the report, and said they contacted the owners of the vehicle, who confirmed the person with them was not the missing girl.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office also received reports that Roberts may have been seen with a white man on Highway 4 between Murphys and Arnold prior to her discovery.
Roberts’ disappearance was first identified as a voluntary or at-will missing person, and she was considered a runaway. Detectives believe she was aware of widespread social media activity about her disappearance and had purposefully hid at the man’s residence, the press release stated.
Detectives are still investigating to determine if any additional charges will be filed against Kevin Kasperson, 20.
Kasperson was transported to the Calaveras County Jail for booking, the press release stated.
The press release noted that child protective services were notified to assist with the possible reunification of Roberts with her family.
