A Sonora man died near the Highway 120 and Highway 108 junction in Jamestown on Friday after he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a vehicle preparing to turn toward Yosemite.

At about 11 a.m., the man, 63, of Sonora, was driving westbound on Highway 120 and lost control of his 2003 Jeep, a CHP news release said.

The vehicle swerved across lanes and directly into the path of a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country, preparing to make a left turn towards Yosemite onto Highway 120 in the eastbound lane of Highway 108.

The man, who has not been identified pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chrysler, Ximenes Pereira, 70, of Tracy, sustained major injuries.

Passengers Joe Simas, 44, Susan Simas, 37, and Catarina Simas, 2, all of Patterson, sustained moderate injuries.

Juliana Simas, 4, of Patterson, was not injured.

The injured people were transferred via ground ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora.
