Four people were injured Sunday in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 108 at Washington Street in Sonora.

According to a news release from the Sonora-area California Highway Patrol, 36-year-old Roberto Martinez Lira, of Salinas, was driving a 2004 Cadillac Escalade east on Highway 108 at the same time 43-year-old Alonso Solis Tolentino, of Sonora, was driving a 2002 Toyota Rav4 west approaching Washington Street.

The CHP release stated Martinez Lira allowed the Cadillac to travel over the solid double-yellow lines into the oncoming lane and collided head-on the Rav4 driven by Solis Tolentino.

Solis Tolentino was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries.

Alejandro Bonillo, 47, and Bobby Nolasco, 18, both of Colton and both passengers in Martinez Lira’s vehicle, were transported to Adventist Health Sonora for treatment of moderate and minor injuries.

Martinez Lira was taken to Adventist Health Sonora to be cleared for minor injuries. He was subsequently booked into the Tuolumne County Jail on charges of DUI causing injuries. His bail was set at $25,000.
