Adventist Health Sonora will participate Thursday in a statewide active shooter drill to train staff and local emergency service agencies to respond to uncommon threat incidents.

The full-scale exercise will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will include participation from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Sonora Police Department, Sonora Fire Department, Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services, Tuolumne County Public Health Department, Tuolumne County Ambulance, Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

The agencies have been accumulating resources in preparation for the event, an Adventist Health Sonora press release stated, and have spent several months planning the drill.

First responders will train hospital staff how to react in the event of an active shooter threat on the main medical center campus.

The active shooter drill will be directed under the auspices of the California Department of Public Health and the Emergency Medical Services Authority, and the California Statewide Medical Health Exercise.

Medical professionals at various facilities will participate in their own exercises across the state.
