Mokelumne Hill man dies in single-car crash
A Mokelumne Hill man died Friday afternoon on Michael Road in Mountain Ranch after he lost control and his vehicle crashed into a tree.
The San Andreas-area California Highway Patrol responded at 3:05 p.m. to Michael Road, north of Cave City Road, and found a 2002 Ford Explorer had run head-on into a tree.
The single occupant was thrown from the vehicle, and emergency personnel were unable to revive him, said Officer John Fernandez.
Fernandez said speed at the time of the crash was unknown. The SUV crossed the southbound lane and onto the left shoulder before hitting the tree.
The driver, Ken James Ingle, 56, of Mokelumne Hill, was not wearing a seatbelt, Fernandez said.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, he said, and there is no information to indicate alcohol or drugs were involved with the crash.
