Backers of a future entertainment complex that’s under construction at 208 S. Green St. in Sonora are asking to change a recently approved agreement with the City of Sonora for improvements to the adjacent parking lot.
On Monday, the Sonora City Council is scheduled to consider the request that would remove the requirement for 55 Properties LLC, which is associated with Trado Restaurant Corp. and the future Green Dog Beer Co., to construct a new storm drain manhole in the city-owned Coffill parking lot at 198 S. Green Street.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Monday in City Hall at 94 N. Washington St.
Sarah Segars, project manager for 55 Properties LLC, stated in a letter to the city dated Oct. 12 that constructing a manhole access to the rock-lined storm drain that runs under the city parking lot and property owned by the company would cost more than expected and create potential liability issues.
The agreement, approved by the council Sept. 18, allowed the installation, operation and maintenance of a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. transformer, grease interceptor, bike rack, and sewer, water, electrical, and propane lines on one of the 29 existing spaces in the city-owned parking lot.
In exchange, the company agreed to complete $110,000 worth of improvements to the parking lot, including the manhole, constructing a new sidewalk, concrete curb and planter, resurfacing and repaving the parking lot and converting two of the spaces to handicap parking.
Constructing the manhole was initially estimated to cost $20,000 of the total $110,000 in improvements.
City Administrator Tim Miller stated in a memo to the council recommending approval of the change that the company will accommodate the city to use the manhole currently on its property, as well as provide a portable hoist to remove any debri from the storm drain.
Several people spoke against the council approving the original agreement at the Sept. 18 meeting because the city didn’t charge the company a fee for the easement to use parking space.
The only other items on the council’s agenda for Monday’s meeting are the introduction of several new city employees and volunteers, as well as an update from the Vision Sonora Committee.
