Road crews have reopened Sonora Pass and Highway 108 above Kennedy Meadows Road as of noon today, Caltrans District 10 staff say.
The road was closed Tuesday evening due to a fast-moving winter storm that brought winds and several inches of snow to the Highway 108 corridor east of Long Barn. Highway 108 had been closed from Kennedy Meadows Road, about 25 miles east of Strawberry, up and over Sonora Pass to 8.6 miles west of the junction with U.S. 395 in Mono County.
The other high passes over the Central Sierra in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties -- Ebbetts Pass on Highway 4 and Tioga Pass on Highway 120 -- were also open as of noon Thursday.
Tuesday’s storm brought the first significant rain and snow of the new water year to the Middle Fork Stanislaus watershed. The new water year started Oct. 1.
