The Tuolumne Utilities District plans to close a portion of South Green Street and shut off water to homes and business there early Friday.
The closure is scheduled from midnight Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday between Stockton Road and Church Street. The closure is needed to install a 4-inch line and other pipe to connect the Green Dog Beer Company to the TUD system, Lisa Westbrook with TUD customer relations said.
TUD customers who live near the road closure may experience little to no water during
Westbrook said due to aging pipes and other infrastructure in the area it’s necessary to do a water shut off “so that we can install a fire sprinkler system and commercial water line to the beer garden.”
Asked how much the project is costing, and whether the developer is paying all the costs, or if TUD ratepayers are sharing the cost, Westbrook responded, “The developer pays the cost.”
Staff with TUD placed yellow notices about the closure on door knobs of some apartments in the area Tuesday morning.
“TUD will be making repairs in your area and your water will be shut off during this time,” the notices state. “When water is shut off we recommend turning off electric water heaters until water service is restored.”
After the work is completed and water service is restored in the work area, TUD customers may notice some discoloration. TUD staff advise this is normal and not unhealthy. TUD staff recommend customers run cold water for several minutes until clear.
