The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Thursday arrested the wife of a former California attorney general at a Twain Harte vacation home on suspicion of battery on a spouse.

Nadia Davis Lockyer, 46, a former Alameda County supervisor and wife of Bill Lockyer, 76, who also served as California treasurer, had a blood alcohol content of 0.22 percent at the time of her arrest, Tuolumne County Sgt. Andrea Benson said.

The charge is a misdemeanor. Her bail was set at $5,000. As of 8 p.m. Thursday Lockyer had not posted bail.

A condition of release on bond on a battery on a spouse charge is the suspect must remain in jail for a five-hour cooling off period and have a blood alcohol content below .06 percent.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from inside a home on Fireside Drive near Twain Harte Lake at about 10:55 a.m. The caller, who Benson did not identify, said an intoxicated woman was yelling and throwing things.

Bill Lockyer reportedly received a minor injury, Benson said.

The Lockyers have been locked in a contentious marriage for years, beginning with Nadia Lockyer’s revelation that she used methamphetamines and had an affair with a San Jose construction worker she met in rehab.

Nadia Davis, a lawyer, and Bill Lockyer were married in 2003 during Bill Lockyer’s first term as state attorney general. At the time, they were considered one of the state’s power couples.

In 2012, he cited “irreconcilable differences” in a divorce filing, but withdrew the suit in March 2013 in the hope of a reconciliation, The Mercury News reported in January 2015.

Also in 2015, the newspaper reported that Mrs. Lockyer accused her husband of having a long-term affair with a woman who worked for him in the AG’s office and the treasurer’s office.

Since his retirement as California state treasurer, a position he held from 2007-2015, Lockyer has worked for the international law firm Brown Rudnick out of the Orange County, California, office.

Much of the information about their marriage has beome public on Mrs. Lockyer’s Facebook page. In 2015, she announced she was pregnant and said, “ Yes, the Lockyers are expecting to give another beautiful gift to this world.”

Just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, she posted a rambling Facebook message that began “OK, world” and went on to say that she adored her husband and wanted to remain married to him but can’t.

He hits, hurts me, yells, and I care for my children in between...then he calls people in control to manipulate the situation. I don't have many options when your hubby is the former "top cop" and is addicted to Ambien.”

She said posting the information was not easy and acknowledged she had not always handled the situation well.

“With a huge broken heart and bruises, I'm filing for legal separation. Please keep us in your prayers. This is my final post for a long while,” she said.

Responding to comments critical of her public posting, Nadia said, “this is my only outlet to speak the truth.”

On July 3, she posted that she was bird watching and cleaning up their Hayward home before heading to the lake with their twins, teenage son and “his norcal buddies, plus 2 dogs.”

Another Facebook post on June 25 says they were eating breakfast in a restaurant before going to church.

Earlier this year, Mrs. Lockyer was appointed to the Los Angeles County Homeless Services Authority Committee by Los Angeles County 4th District Supervisor Janice Han in 2017.

Mrs. Lockyer was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail at 12:19 p.m. Thursday. Benson said Mrs. Lockyer has no arrest history or record in Tuolumne County.
