Yosemite National Park rangers say they’ve identified a man who reportedly fell into the Merced River while hiking Monday afternoon on the popular Mist Trail, but there was no update on the status of their search as of Tuesday evening.
The man is described as possibly being in his 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a shaved or bald head, wearing a blue shirt and red or tan shorts, and carrying a hiking pole but no backpack.
He was reported to have fallen from the trail about 12:30 p.m. Monday.
The post says that the park will not release the hiker’s name at this time.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the park’s dispatch at (209) 379-1992.
Both public information officers at the park had messages saying they were each out of the office Tuesday and didn’t respond to questions sent via email.
