Days of steady sprinkles, drizzles and harder rains added up Tuesday as storm runoff soaked the Mother Lode and snarled traffic in some areas, including Kewin Mill Road, where rising waters unleashed flooding and erosion and cut off access to the hilltop Cedar Ridge area.

Reverse 911 calls were being sent out by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office about the closure on Kewin Mill near Comstock Ranch Road. There was no immediate estimate on when the road would be reopened.

Other weather issues in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties Tuesday afternoon included outages near Big Hill Road, Longeway Road and Middle Camp Road, and in Sugarpine, high flow conditions on Murphys Creek below the Murphys Afterbay, closures of recreation sites in the Groveland Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest due to flooding and heavy rains, and suspension of lift operations at Bear Valley due to heavy snowfall and high avalanche danger.
