Tuolumne Utilities District maintenance and construction staff replaced a leaking water service pipe Tuesday in downtown Jamestown.

The leak was reported and workers responded Tuesday morning on the 18000 block of Main Street, Doug Everhart, a TUD maintenance-construction foreman said at the work site.

“We started this morning replacing one water service here that was leaking,” Everhart said. “In this case we decided to run a new line in the ground.”

The district’s water distribution system includes pipe sections 80 years old and older that need replacing, according to TUD staff.

In February, the construction and maintenance department responded to at least three main line leaks, three main line breaks, two after-hours breaks and repaired eight service line leaks, according to an operations update March 22.

The work site Tuesday required partial closure of Main Street. Workers used signs to direct motorists around the work site.
