Donations and volunteers are being sought for the 36th annual Community Christmas Eve Day Dinner at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
A few hundred volunteers are needed for the annual holiday gathering, which serves thousands of hot turkey dinners to anyone in the community along with live holiday music and visits with Santa Claus.
This year’s meal will be served from noon to 6 p.m. in the Sierra Building at the fairgrounds, 220 Southgate Drive in Sonora.
The event is a joint effort between community members, civic groups and organizations including Interfaith Community Social Services and the Kiwanis Club of Sonora.
Volunteers are welcome and can sign up through Wednesday, Dec. 18, by calling Cathie Peacock at (209) 586-4802.
Volunteer shifts are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Dec. 22 and 23, for set up of tables and Santa’s Workshop, table setting, tree trimming and food preparation.
Shifts on the day of the dinner are from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 1:45 to 4 p.m. and 3:45 to 6 p.m. Only scheduled volunteers will be able to work during the dinner.
