Tuolumne County residents who are 100 years old or older are being sought by the Tuolumne County Commission on Aging.

Each year, the commission celebrates older county residents with a luncheon, during which they are awarded a certificate of appreciation and inducted into the “Tuolumne County Centenarian Society.”

The lunch will be served by local dignitaries.

Additionally, people who aren’t quite 100 are honored as members of “Tuolumne County’s University of Life” — Those who are 96 are honored as freshmen, 97 as sophomores, 98 as juniors and 99 as seniors. They, too, receive a certificate.

The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Senior Center, 540 Greenley Road in Sonora.

Anyone who knows an older resident eligible for the honor is asked to contact Cathie Peacock at cathiepeacock@yahoo.com, (209) 586-4802 or (209) 532-0255 (fax) with their mailing information so an invitation can be sent.

RSVP’s should be received by Sept. 24.
