The American Association of University Women Sonora Branch recently held its Salad Supper, the annual kick off dinner during which members bring salads and the group celebrates the young women who went to Tech Trek at Fresno State this past summer.

This year, it was held at the Willow Springs Clubhouse in Soulsbyville. Girls in the 7th grade are eligible each year from two of the schools in our county. It rotates each year and the schools change each year.

Tech Trek is a STEM-related camp held for a week on the Fresno State campus. The girls attend classes and participate in events that are related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. These also include Robotics related activities. Funds to attend the camp come from the AAUW annual Home Tour, which will be held Dec. 1. AAUW Sonora Branch pays for six girls to attend.

Two members were given their Charter Membership Awards at the Salad Supper, Carmelita Fleck and Geanie Eaton.

The next meeting that is open to the public will be held at the Willow Springs Clubhouse, 20522 Willow Springs Drive, on Oct. 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This will be an AAUW Committee Informational night where committee chairpersons will be sharing what their committee does and what their important contributions are to AAUW.
