The Mokelumne Hill Elementary school garden recently received new garden tools, a garden wagon, and a white board
The garden education tools were purchased through funding provided by the Calaveras Unified School District. With the new tools, the students have already built a path around the garden with wood chips and cardboard. To keep the tools in order, the school has installed a series of hooks to store large, long handled garden rakes, shovels and forks. And at the start of next school year we will have a lesson on proper tool use, maintenance and storage.
The Mokelumne Hill Elementary school garden is a learning garden with regular weekly gardening and nutrition lessons held during instructional time, lead by a credentialed teacher and a Master Gardener.
In addition to gardening skills, students have an opportunity to practice hands-on science by applying their academic skills in math, science, language and the arts.
