Canine fashion show set in Tuolumne

Adoptable animals from Friends of the Animal Community will model for a fashion show Saturday at Westside Memorial Park in downtown Tuolumne.

The K-9 Fashion Show and Costume Party will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include the fashion show (modeled by FOAC canines) and a costume contest for all pets.

Awards will presented in categories including Scariest Costume, Cutest Costume, Most Creative Costume and Best Couple Costume.

Cost to enter is $10 per animal.

The event will also include a craft fair, silent auction and prize drawing and a hot dog lunch.

Proceeds from the event will be used for service-dog training.

The event is co-sponsored by FOAC and the Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living.

Fruit preservation workshop is Tuesday

University of California Master Food Preservers on Tuesday will hold a workshop on preserving fruit.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and check-in will begin at 8:30. Cost to attend is $15 per person and includes a light lunch.

The workshop will offer instruction on making freezer jam, dried fruits, jams and jellies, flavored vinegars, fruit sauces, syrups and even pickles.

The event will be held at the Tuolumne County Ambulance and Fire Administration Center, 18440 Striker Court, off Tuolumne Road in Sonora.

Aronos to hold Welcome Back Potluck

The Aronos Research Club will hold a Welcome Back Potluck Tuesday at its clubhouse, 37 E. Elkin St., in downtown Sonora.

The event will begin at 11:30 p.m., and the group will finalize plans for its Fall Fling Tea, which will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 21 at the clubhouse.

New officers for the coming year are Mary Jayne Moffatt, president; Alicia Merry and Dixie Turzai, vice presidents; Janet Hart, treasurer; Dennis Weibe and Marie Smith, secretaries; and Natalie Paine, Mary Adams and Nichole Archer, directors.

The club was formed in 1915, and this year will study Ireland.

Weavers, spinners meet Oct. 9

The Mother Lode Weavers and Spinners Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at the Columbia Presbyterian Church of the 49ers, 11155 Jackson St., in Columbia.

After a business meeting, guild members will have a panel discussion on the techniques of finishing woven fabric. Visitors are welcome.
