The Southern Tuolumne County Historical Society will host a special event this weekend with local climbing legend Conrad Anker introducing his friend and protege Matt Cornell, who will present a slideshow about his adventures.

The program — set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Groveland Community Hall — will be an insiders look at the mountain ranges of Alaska, Patagonia and the Sierra Nevada.

Cornell, a 23-year-old climber who spends each summer in Tuolumne County, will discuss his recent speed record on one of the most difficult sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, organizers said. He also recently climbed Cerro Torre in Patagonia.

Signed prints, hot dogs and snacks will be available for purchase.
