Aronos to host Community Birthday Dance Party

The Aronos Research Club will hold a Community Birthday Dance Party Saturday at its clubhouse, 37 E. Elkin St., at Stewart Street in downtown Sonora.

The community is invited to celebrate the birthdays of anyone born between February and June.

The dance will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., and a finger-food potluck will be offered. Those attending are encouraged to bring anything they’d like to share. Beverages and cup cakes will be provided.

Kick-off meet set for Independence Hall volunteers

The Independence Hall of Arnold on Thursday will hold a kick-off meeting for all volunteers of its annual Flea Market.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the hall, 1445 Blagen Road in Arnold.

Flea market volunteers meet every Tuesday and Thursday until the market on Aug. 4 and 5.

Independence Hall will also have several furniture/miscellaneous sales from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays June 9 and 23.

Independence Hall is a community center available during the year for events, club meetings and community area meetings.

Vietnam Veterans Golf Classic slated for July 20

The annual Vietnam Veterans Golf Classic will be held July 20 at Mountain Springs Golf Club in Sonora.

A shotgun start will be at 9 a.m., and many prizes will be awarded, including a hole-in-one prize of a 2018 Ford Fiesta or Subaru Forester from Sonora Ford or Sonora Subaru.

Prizes also will be awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive for both men and women. Pro shop credit will be given for the lowest score for first, second and third.

Entry fee is $100 per player. Extra dinners can be purchased separately.

A putting contest/awards buffet will be held in the Terrace Room at the club.

Sponsorships ranging from $125 to $1,500 are available.

Twain Harte Soroptimist award more than $13K in scholarships

Soroptimist International of Twain Harte recently awarded $13,500 to 17 Summerville High School graduating seniors.

The scholarships were awarded during a luncheon on April 24 at the Eproson House Restaurant in Twain Harte. In addition to the senior awards, the group awarded its annual Live Your Dream award.

Soroptimist International of Twain Harte is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, and the money given represents the proceeds from the club’s biggest fundraisers, an annual Crab Feed and Twain Harte a la Carte.
