Annual run will benefit Mind Matters

The seventh annual Off the Beaten Path Run/Walk, a fundraiser for Mind Matters, will be held April 28 in Murphys.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. at Murphys Community Park on Algiers Street. Medals will be awarded for the top three spots in a 10K race, and a 5K run (or walk) will be held for fun.

Cost to register is $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 7 to 12 and free for children 6 and younger. A free T-shirt will be given to those who register by April 12.

Mind Matters is a nonprofit clinic in Murphys whose mission is to help individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADD/ADHD), and learning disabilities.

Hospital challenges people to ‘Get Moving’

The Tuolumne County Health Department is sponsoring the Get Moving Challenge during April.

The contest encourages people to step up their healthy habits for a chance to win a Fitbit.

To enter, participants must doing something healthy, take a picture of a selfie of the healthy activity, post and share it on social media with the hashtag #HealthySelfieTC, then go to to post.

Health goals suggested by the department include drinking more water, reducing sugar intake, walking more, quitting smoking, hiking a local trail or getting a doctor’s checkup.

Cancer support group gets $250 donation

The Calaveras Cancer Support Group received a $250 donation from St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church at a recent meeting.

The Church sponsors an annual event, “St. Pat’s at St. Matt’s” to raise funds to support local organizations focused on cancer awareness, prevention and education. Several members of St. Matthew’s have reached out to the Calaveras Cancer Support Group in past years for assistance.

The at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Library Meeting Room at Camp’s Restaurant in Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. Everyone is welcome to attend.
