The Rev. Sonya Sukalski will continue a discussion of the Sabbath at a service Sunday of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tuolumne County.

The service will begin at 10 a.m. in the Community Room at the Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road in Sonora.

Sukalski will be joined by member Leslie Latour, and Becky Miller-Cripps will provide special music.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tuolumne County meets on first and third Sundays in Sonora and on second and fourth Sundays in Douglas Flat in Calaveras County. All are welcome.

Unity Spiritual Center in Twain Harte will hold a Month of Love Italian Dinner Feb. 10.

Dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. at the center, 23191 Mark Twain Drive.

The First Congregational Church in Murphys will hold its seventh annual Heavenly Chocolate Festival Feb. 10 at the church.

The festival will feature more than 60 chocolate exhibitors and a chocolate fountain, where those attending can blend flavors. Hot and cold beverages will be offered, as well as wine by the glass.

The annual Chocolate Lovers’ Hoedown, a community dance and dinner, will be held Feb. 10 in the Manzanita Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.

The event, sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tuolumne County, will include chocolate items suitable for Valentine’s Day gifts, including homemade truffles.

A buffet dinner catered by chef Dave Ingram will include “cowboy caviar,” barbecued pork loin with chocolate-fig sauce, “wranglers’” salad and cake for dessert.

Wine and beer will be available for purchase.

Dance caller Rachel Phillips, of Groveland, will call a hoedown that will include circles, triplets, contras, lines and squares. No experience or partners are necessary.

Cost to attend the event, which will run from 6 to 9 p.m., is $30 per person of $100 for four. Tickets can be purchased at Mountain Bookshop in The Junction shopping center in East Sonora or at Schnoog’s in the Timberhills Shopping Center in Sonora.

The Mother Lode Jewish Community will celebrate Tu B’Shvat (Jewish Arbor Day) on Feb. 11.

Tu B’Shvat, also known as the “New Year for Trees,” is considered the Jewish Arbor Day, stated press release. Rabbi Andra Greenwald will conduct a Seder service, then those gathered will partake in a potluck meal and plant a few trees. This will be an informal, festive gathering, taking place at a member’s home in Murphys. The Seder is scheduled for 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon and tree planting at 1 p.m.

The MLJC will have a number of events in late February and March: a Hamentashen Baking gathering from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 28; the annual Purim Party (with an out of this world theme) on March 3 in Murphys; and a Passover Seder March 31 in Sonora. There will also be several prep gatherings tied to the Passover event.
