Annual Christmas Shop benefits preschoolers

Summerville Parent Nursery School will hold its annual Christmas Shop today and Saturday in Soulsbyville.

The shop offers a chance for children to buy gifts for parents and family with the help of an “elf.” The event will also feature a prize drawing, homemade baked goods and hot cocoa and a visit from Santa Claus.

The shop will be open from noon to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Willow Springs Clubhouse on Willow Springs Drive.

Jazz@8 to perform
at Aronos Club

Summerville High School’s Jazz@8 choir will perform Tuesday at the Aronos Club in downtown Sonora.

Those attending are asked to be seated by noon for the 12:15 p.m. program. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.

A buffet featuring a variety of soups, breads and cookies will be served after the program, during which time Pat Bradley, of Murphys, will perform holiday songs on the piano.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted.

This holiday season, Aronos Club members will ring bells for Salvation Army and provide Christmas stockings for children spending the holidays at local shelters. Stockings include a hand-knit hat and stuffed animal.

Murphys Celtic club
to co-host Tuesday
Irish Yuletide Feast

The Western Sierra Celtic Society and chef Jason Gill will present a traditional Irish winter holiday dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murphys Irish Pub, 415 Main St., in downtown Murphys.

Cost for the meal is $27 per person, and the Irish menu will offer a choice of roast beef with Guinness Irish beer au jus or chicken pot pie, served with an Irish sausage, potatoes Colcannon and mixed vegetables. There will be an Irish dessert for an additional charge.

The club will forego its usual cultural program to allow members of the public to meet members and learn about its year-round social activities.

Founded in June, the nonprofit Irish-Scottish society meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the pub. Membership is open to all, regardless of family ancestry.

Free tax help offered at Senior Center

Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board-trained volunteers, in conjunction with AARP, will be give free tax help to people 60 and older and low- to moderate-income people beginning Feb. 7.

Help will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through April 4 at the Tuolumne County Senior Center, 540 Greenley Road, Sonora.

People should bring their 2016 tax return, annual income statements from Social Security, broker statements, 1099s, W-2s, etc.
