Members of Cal Fire’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit L2881 along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and MDA families will hold the annual Fill the Boot fundraising event Saturday in East Sonora.

The fundraiser helps local children and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases by helping pay for treatments, summer camp, medical equipment loans, MDA care centers, support groups and more.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mono Way at The Junction shopping center, where first responders and others will be stationed to collect donations from passing motorists.

The Fill the Boot campaign is an annual tradition that takes place across the country. Since the first Tuolumne County Fill the Boot event in 2012, $46,321 has been raised. That money has been spent on 23 summer camp experiences, 618 medical equipment deliveries, 4,632 support groups, 579 days of medical supplies at camp, 713 minutes of research and 309 physical therapy sessions.
