The Mark Twain Wild West Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on Main Street in historic downtown Angels Camp. The event is presented by the Angels Camp Business Association, and aims to celebrate the city’s Gold Rush history.

Formerly known as Gold Rush Day, the Mark Twain Wild West Fest will feature live music, comedy and entertainment on three stages along with food and drinks and more than 80 street vendors.

A pancake breakfast will kick off the day from 8 to 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

An “American Flag Parade” will then be held at 10 a.m.

Historical impersonators of great literary figures and others will be in attendance, including “Mark Twain” himself.

Entertainment will also feature a children’s Gold Rush Village with interactive activities such as rope tying, a pie eating contest, fence painting and more.

Live musicians include the Black Irish Band, Ernie Sites, the Old West Trio and Sourdough Slim.

This year, the Mark Twain Wild West Fest will sell raffle tickets for $10 each with the grand prize of six gold nuggets (valued at about $5,800) or $3,000 cash. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the Angels Camp Business Association, Calaveras Visitors Bureau and other locations throughout Angels Camp or at the festival. Raffle ticket sales support the production of this year’s Mark Twain Wild West Fest.

Those attending the festival are strongly encouraged to wear costumes featuring Wild West, Western, Gold Rush, Edwardian, Victorian, gothic and even steampunk attire of the era. Costume contests will be held in the Gold Rush Village.

A complimentary shuttle service will be provided from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from the parking lots at the Bret Harte High School Theater and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Additionally, Manzanita Writers Press will host a “Story Roundup” the day before the festival. That event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Friday at Manzanita Arts Emporium, 1211 S. Main St. in Angels Camp. Presentations include Pat Kaunert’s “Mark Twain: Storytelling in the West” and Ernie Sites’ “Yodeling Cowboy: On the Trail — Cowboy Poetry.” Cost is $35.
