NAMI meeting set for Feb. 7 in Sonora

NAMI Tuolumne County will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the church hall at St. James’ Episcopal Church in downtown Sonora.

The event will feature a potluck, guest speaker and separate peer and family support groups and is open to anyone impacted by a mental health condition.

Cancer Support Group meets Feb. 7 in Angels Camp

The Calaveras Cancer Support Group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Camps Restaurant in Angels Camp.

The meetings are free and open to the public, cancer patients, survivors and caretakers.

Adventist Health
to hold annual Heart Walk

Adventist Health Sonora will hold its annual Heart Walk Tuesday, Feb. 12 outside the hospital’s emergency entrance.

The one-mile walk is held in recognition of American Heart Month in February.

Healthy refreshments will be provided, and the first 250 participants will receive a free T-shirt. The walk will begin at noon, rain or shine.

The American Heart Association says walking can have a significant impact on health by lowering the chances of heart disease. Staff at Adventist Health Sonora encourage everyone to walk a mile every day to improve and maintain healthy hearts.

MTHCD offers grants for health programs

The Mark Twain Health Care District is offering grants to organizations and individuals who provide health care programs, services and activities for the benefit of Calaveras County communities.

Programs and organizations that promote physical, emotional and psychological well-being are eligible to apply. Areas of consideration include behavioral health, dental, rehabilitation, women’s health, children’s health, senior programs, tele-health technology and community health services.
