Ombudsman Program training begins Jan. 23

The Mother Lode Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is looking for volunteers.

Program volunteers assist with monitoring the quality of care, identifying and resolving problems, and respond to complaints received on behalf of residents in long-term and residential care facilities in Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, and Tuolumne counties.

Volunteer advocates should be comfortable with assisting in conflict resolution, have excellent communication, organizational and computer skills, and the ability to be objective and independent during investigations. The monthly time commitment is about 15 flexible hours.

A free, state-mandated, 36-hour training to become certified by the California Department of Aging will begin Jan. 23. Mileage reimbursement is available for those traveling from Amador and Mariposa counties upon completion of training and certification.
