workshop will benefit Search and Rescue

The fifth annual Annie Oakley Academy self-defense workshop for women will be held at the Mother Lode Gun Club in Jamestown from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team to buy equipment to better serve the community.

Tickets cost $45 for women and $25 for men and are available at Let-Er-Buck, Banks Glass and the Sheriff’s Office in Sonora, Hurst Ranch in Jamestown and the Farmory in Columbia. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Ceremony will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The annual Pink in the Night lighting ceremony in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Terrace Plaza in Valley Springs.

People who attend the event can pick up a pink, 60-watt porch light so they can help honor the month by lighting up their homes.

The plaza is at 1906 Vista Del Lago Drive.

Support offered
to visually impaired

The Visually Impaired Persons support group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sonora Hills clubhouse off Greenley Road in Sonora.

The purpose of the group is to discuss the challenges of vision loss, share and offer solutions to independent living concerns, and to provide support and encouragement as well as information and education.

‘Mammo-Glam’ event offers support, healthy lifestyle education

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Mark Twain Health Care District will host a “Mammo-Glam” event on Oct. 10 and Oct. 26.

The event will offer women of all ages the opportunity to overcome mammogram fears and learn more about healthy lifestyle choices and overall well-being.

The event is part of the district’s A Plan 4 Me workshop series, which offers resources to help shape a healthy future.

Mammogram appointments will be available during the event. Those wanting a mammogram should secure a doctor’s order, then call (209) 754-2517 to reserve a screening time.

The event also will feature a glam photo booth, healthy refreshments and lifestyle resources, and zumba.

The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. both days in the lobby at Mark Twain Medical Center, 768 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.
