The Brothers Comatose will play Saturday at Mountain Sage, concluding the Groveland venue’s summer concert series.

The band will return to Tuolumne County two weeks later when they play Strawberry Music Festival on Sept. 3.

The band is touring in support of their thoughtfully crafted album, “City Painted Gold.”

Brothers Ben and Alex Morrison — on guitar, banjo and lead vocals — front this string band that has become a festival favorite and international touring act. Rounding out the band is bass-master Gio Benedetti and stellar accompanists Philip Brezina on fiddle and Ryan Avellone on mandolin.

The band has toured with Devil Makes Three and Yonder Mountain String Band, and has appeared at High Sierra Music Festival, DelFest and Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.

This fall, the band will tour New South Wales in Australia before returning stateside for gigs in California and Colorado.

Following their critically-acclaimed albums “Songs from the Stoop” and “Respect the Van,” the band released “City Painted Gold” earlier this year on Swamp Jam Records. Standout tracks include the playful opener “Brothers” and the beautifully raw “Tops of the Trees.” The catchy “Valerie” will leave listeners humming its chorus throughout the day.

When making the record, band members returned to their home of 14 years in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco.

“We wrote this album living in San Francisco as it was changing from a weird, art-friendly mecca to a place that only super rich tech workers can afford,” Ben Morrison said. “Things started changing rapidly. Venues were closing down, and artist and musician friends moved away. What is San Francisco without its weirdos? That’s what the song ‘City Painted Gold’ is about and that’s why it’s the name of this record.”

Shortly after completing the record, The Brothers Comatose themselves joined the ranks of the displaced and moved into the greater Bay Area.

The Trespassers will open Saturday’s show in Groveland.
