Summerville boys varsity falls to Sonora in MLL play

The Summerville High School boys varsity team lost to Sonora Friday night, 70-50.

Sonora’s a good team that played well, said Bears coach Ben Watson.

“We weren’t able to stay up with them,” he said.

Turnovers would prove to be a problem for the Bears, and that’s one of the things they’re working on this week as they play three league games, including a Monday night matchup against Calaveras.

“(Norton) he is our mainstay inside,” said Watson.

In Friday’s game he had 16 points and eight rebounds.

AmayaWood had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Heading into this week’s schedule, Watson said aside from the turnover issue they’re also working on taking advantage of shooting opportunities.

Watson wants to spread that shot-making around.

“Right now we need to get more out of our big guys inside,” he said.

And he wants the team to clean up their outside play.

“We’re not shooting the ball very well from outside,” Watson said.

On Wednesday the Bears will play at Bret Harte and Friday they’re at home against Argonaut.

Junior varsity games begin at 6 p.m. and varsity games begin at 7:30 p.m.
