Twelve gymnasts from Sonora’s American Sports and Acro Gymnastics competed at the Xcel State Competition in Oroville.
Natalie Walker, Adyson Kroeze, Araceli Ramos, and Cadee Grove. Competing in Xcel gold were Kenidee Ballard, Demiree Dean, Taylee McDonald, Addison Heerman and Alexis Jones competed in Silver Xcel.
Mia Kjaer, Lauren Tangenberg and Teagan Spangler competed in Competing in the platinum division. (Abigail Galvan and Brie Personius were unable to compete.)
Ballard placed third overall in her age category with an overall score of 36.60 which included a first place vault and beam.
Walker also placed third overall with a 36.30 which included a first place on bars and beam.
Ramos competed at states for the first time and placed third in the silver junior D category with an overall score of 36.825.
“I am very proud of how far the girls have come this season,” said coach Krista Cruff. “They competed with grace and confidence at the state meet with many placing in the top of their age groups on several events.”
Xcel is a competitive program that holds state meets across the country. Gymnasts can also qualify for regional meets at state meets.
Sonora gymnasts Kenidee Ballard, Lauren Tangenberg,and Teagan Spangler qualified for regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah in April.
