Summerville High School will honor its varsity girls basketball team seniors tonight as they wrap up Mother Lode League play at home against Sonora.

This year’s graduating class includes Delaney Rodgers, Emili Rico, Karina Herrera, Claire Caldera, Laiken Skiner, Grace Fulkerson and Becky Harte.

The Bears are coming off a tough loss at Bret Harte, 40-39.

Coach Greg Smith said the game was a strange one.

Part of that was due to “uneven and objectionable calls,” said Smith.

Down the stretch the Bullfrogs hit two three-pointers and several of their 24 free throws to take the lead for good.

“Not our best finishing night,” said Smith.

As has been the case all season, even in the loss, the seniors impressed. Herrera had 13 points and Fulkerson added eight.

Sophomore Serafina Peterson had 12 points.

The Bears are now 7-4 in league.

Tonight they’ll play at home against cross-town rival Sonora.

Sonora is also coming off a tough loss. They fell 52-45 to Argonaut.

“We played chaotic and undisciplined,” said coach Amy Emerald.

The Wildcats held steady in the first half before Argonaut took control with a 13-4 third quarter.

“We turned the ball over too many times and couldn’t get a shot to fall. We didn’t have much structure all night long,” said Emerald.

That kind of play against a one-loss team like the Mustangs won’t win the game, she said.

The Wildcat’s leading scorer was Shanece Garrett with 14 points. She also had six rebounds.

Ainslee Shuemake had 12 points and four rebounds. Freshman Jessica Berry led rebounding with 10.

Heading into tonight’s game the ‘Cats 8-2 and in second place in league behind Argonaut. Summerville is at No. 3.

The varsity game begins in Tuolumne at 7:30 p.m.
