Sonora girls basketball prowls past Bullfrogs, 65-20

Make that 6-1 for the Sonora High School girls varsity basketball team.

In Friday night Mother Lode League action the ‘Cats cruised by the Bret Harte Bullfrogs, 65-20.

Head coach Amy Emerald continues to get contributions from her entire roster. That’s given them a perfect record in January.

“We have finally had the opportunity to get some good time in playing together and that’s showing in our games,” said Emerald. “We passed the ball well, and our defense was outstanding.”

Freshman Jessica Berry led the Wildcats with her double double. She had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior Caitlin Baker had 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Jacey Hawkins also had 10 points and added eight rebounds.

Also scoring for Sonora were junior Shanece Garrett with nine points. Garrett also had six assists.

Sophomore Ainslee Shuemake had nine points; senior Haylie Santos had eight points and eight steals; and sophomore Riley Hessler had five points. Junior Angellina Ray had seven rebounds.

The Wildcats will protect that winning streak on the road tonight at Calaveras (5-3). The varsity game begins at 7:30 p.m.
