Columbia men's basketball sinks Porterville Pirates


Someone forgot to tell the Columbia College men’s basketball team they tend to struggle on the road against Porterville.

Wednesday night the Claim Jumpers managed to hold the Pirates to just 20 first half points as they cruised to a 60-47 win.

Marquell Hubbard was a shot-making machine with 28 points, buoyed by five three-pointers.

“Al Burge and Yosnier Cobas dominated the both the offensive and defensive boards,” said assistant coach Rick Francis.

Burge and Cobas did their share of scoring, too. Each had 11 points.

The win moves Columbia to 4-1 in the Central Division behind West Hills (4-1)

Saturday the Jumpers will have home crowd advantage as they take on West Hill for the chance to move up in the standings.

The game begins at 6 p.m.
