Sonora boys basketball moves to 3-0 in league
The Sonora High SChool boys varsity team beat Bret Harte Monday night, 58-41.
Leading the offense on scoring were Mitchell Camacho with 16 points; Jace Decker with 15; Austin Patterson with 11 and Trey Hawkins with 9.
The win moves Sonora to 3-0 in Mother Lode League play.
Summerville JV beats ‘Cats
The Sonora High School junior varsity girls basketball team lost to Summerville Friday night, 41-32.
“Sonora vs. Summerville is always a town favorite,” said coach Jim Stead. The Wildcats were down a starter after she was called up to the varsity team the night before the game.
“We had a big hole to fill,” Abernathy said. “That mixed with the Bears’ press and our 23 turnovers proved to be just too much for us to overcome.”
The ‘Cats’ leading scorer with 14 was Kiley Thomas. She was also named the outstanding player of the game.
She added 12 rebounds to record her first league double double.
Also scoring for Sonora were Teyha Barnard with three points, Shekinah Calindas with seven points and Caleigh Brewster with four points.
In Monday night play, the Wildcats beat Bret Harte 49-34.
“We moved Lucy Hessler up from the freshmen team and she had an immediate impact for us,” said Stead.
She had 14 points and four steals.
Her energy level played a big role in helping the ‘Cats win, Stead said.
The player of the game was Caleigh Brewster who had 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and six steals.
“She was a true leader tonight,” Stead said.
Teyha Barnard had two two points, Shekinah Calindas has 12 points and six steals, Kylie Dunlap had one point and eight rebounds. Kiley Thomas had eight points and nine rebounds.
Sonora varsity soccer slips past Bret Harte
The Sonora boys varsity soccer team beat Bret Harte 1-0 Monday night. Riley Keaster scored the lone goal for the Wildcats. Gabe Ethier received a yellow card. The junior varsity boys team lost to Bret Harte 8-4. Jesse Gonzales had one goal for Sonora and Cody Schummer had two.
Calaveras claims win
In Monday night league play Calaveras’ varsity boys basketball team beat Summerville 49-38. The Bears (1-2) play at Bret Harte tonight at 7:30 p.m. Calaveras (2-0) plays at Amador tonight at 7:30 p.m.
