The Summerville Bears will have to wait another year to topple their volleyball rival.
The Sonora Wildcats freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams all won their matches.
The varsity team won in three with scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-12.
The freshman team also won in three sets, the JV team won in two.
As expected, the turnout at Bud Castle gym was large - and energetic, said Sonora coach Amy Wahlbrink.
“My girls loved having a big crowd and were fueled by the volume of cheering,” she said.
Among the positive developments Wahlbrink saw from her team was their passing, which helped fuel a strong offensive night.
“We only made one error off of serve receive,” said Wahlbrink.
Riley Patterson led the ‘Cats with 12 kills. Sarah Rosascoe had seven kills.
Sienna Fong led the setters with 34/34 and 12 assists.
Bella Patterson was the leading server, going 17/17 and notching five aces.
Emma Collett had 16 digs.
The Wildcats move to 3-0 in league play and remain perfect at home with a 4-0 record.
Coming into Thursday’s match Wahlbrink said her team was focused on going undefeated in the league and using every game to prepare for the playoffs.
They delivered on both.
“I’m lucky they’re a really nice, hardworking group of girls who respect each other on and off the court,” she said.
They next play an away game at Amador Tuesday, Sept. 19. The varsity game begins at 6 p.m.
Summerville is now 1-1 in league play. They’re on the road Tuesday for a match with Argonaut. The varsity game begins at 6 p.m.
