Hank Kolpack and Hunter Hanson recorded the two best scores Wednesday to lead the Sonora Wildcat golfers past the Linden Lions 230-239 at Castle Oaks Golf Course in Ione.

The match was made up from a rain out earlier this season.

The Wildcats grabbed sole possession of third place in the Mother Lode League and remain unbeaten (7-0 MLL). The Lions fell to 4-3.

“We needed this win and we need to win out,” said Wildcats head coach Steve Lee. “The good news is we’re 7-0 and in good shape after that midseason problem.”

While unbeaten in head-to-head league play, Sonora finished fourth in the mid-season league tournament opening the door for Calaveras (6-1 MLL) and Bret Harte (5-3 MLL) jump ahead in the point standings.

Kolpack earned medalist honors with a 9-hole round of 42 and Hanson shot a 43.

Also for Sonora, Bradley Fulkerson shot a 45, Caleb Farwell a 48 and Ethan Wright scored a 52.

Sonora is scheduled to host Argonaut at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Springs.

The Wildcats finish the week with a clash Thursday against Bret Harte at Greenhorn Creek Resort in Angels Camp.

Summerville JV edges Bret Harte

Paul Bruce smacked an RBI single Tuesday to lift the Summerville Bears junior varsity baseball team over the Bret Harte Bullfrogs 10-9 in extra innings at Standard Park.

Bret Harte led 8-1 entering the seventh inning behind the pitching of Ryan Mercado who allowed just two hits while striking out seven.

The Bears rallied for seven runs in the last inning to send the game into extra frames.

Bret Harte took the lead in the eighth when Ryan Miguel stole home but the Bears rallied for two to win the game.

Bruce finished with two hits and three runs batted in for the Bears.

For the Bullfrogs, Raymond Garcia led all hitters going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Tyler Bottomley went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Mercado, Miguel and Luke Bakke all had RBIs.
