Hank Kolpack and Hunter Hanson recorded the two best scores Wednesday to lead the Sonora Wildcat golfers past the Linden Lions 230-239 at Castle Oaks Golf Course in Ione.

The match was made up from a rain out earlier this season.

The Wildcats grabbed sole possession of third place in the Mother Lode League and remain unbeaten (7-0 MLL). The Lions fell to 4-3.

“We needed this win and we need to win out,” said Wildcats head coach Steve Lee. “The good news is we’re 7-0 and in good shape after that midseason problem.”

While unbeaten in head-to-head league play, Sonora finished fourth in the mid-season league tournament opening the door for Calaveras (6-1 MLL) and Bret Harte (5-3 MLL) jump ahead in the point standings.

Kolpack earned medalist honors with a 9-hole round of 42 and Hanson shot a 43.

Also for Sonora, Bradley Fulkerson shot a 45, Caleb Farwell a 48 and Ethan Wright scored a 52.

Sonora is scheduled to host Argonaut at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Springs.

The Wildcats finish the week with a clash Thursday against Bret Harte at Greenhorn Creek Resort in Angels Camp.
