Sonora kept its win streak alive Friday night at Summerville’s expense.

Kaden Sparks-Davis scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats over the Bears 69-45 in front of a packed house at Bud Castle Gym in Sonora. It was Sonora’s eighth consecutive victory and second to begin Mother Lode League play.

“I’m really excited for the kids,” said Wildcat head coach Dan Dona. “We had a big crowd, the band was there, it was a good night.”

Sparks-Davis hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter where the Wildcats took control of the game with a 22-8 run to lead 37-18 at halftime.

“I was really happy that our guys were finding him and looking for him,” Dona said. “I talked to him in the fourth quarter and asked if he had fun tonight and he said ‘yeah’ with a smile.”

Damian Kress added 14 points off the bench and grabbed a team-high five rebounds and Jace Decker netted 12 points, 10 in the first half, including a pair of 3s and Parker Ashton scored 11 points.

“Damian’s six points in the second quarter were probably the biggest of the game,” Dona said. He was that spark plug that we needed to loosen us up because nothing came easy in the first quarter, We had a little nerves and were a little tight.”

Jiovani Amaya-Wood lead the Bears (3-10, 1-1 MLL) with 13 points, eight in the first quarter.

Vince Boyack and Luke Fulkerson each scored seven points and Kyle Norton and Dawson Robles tallied five points.

Sonora will go for its ninth straight victory Tuesday against Bret Harte in Angels Camp. Summerville will visit Calaveras also on Tuesday.
