Valley Springs’ Blacksmith claims High Junior Award overall title

Valley Springs resident Samuel Blacksmith won the California High Junior Award overall title earlier this month at the April California Service Rifle Championships in Coalinga. Approximately 80 shooters competed in strong winds and warmer weather over three days. Blacksmith shot an aggregate of 778-19X.

In the club match before the championship, Blacksmith won first Expert with a 747-15X. He also over the course of the Championships won two first places, a second place and a fourth in the individual Expert classification matches.

Nathaniel Nye, of Twain Harte, won three fourth place Expert awards.

Morgan Owen, of Sonora, was fourth Master overall.

Anthony Henderson, of Sonora, won a first High Master in the individual matches.

Joe Blacksmith, of Valley Springs, took one second place Expert award.

Twain Harte’s Murray Moore claimed a fourth place Expert individual award.

Soulsbyville’s Rachel Babcock earned a second place Expert award and Kaitlyn Bispo, of LaGrange, won one first place individual sharpshooter award.

Sonora’s Robert Taylor, won the Civilian Marksman Program Match with a score of 492-18X.

Other Mother Lode residents competing were John Henderson and Tanner Hines, of Sonora, Hunter Blacksmith, of Valley Springs, and Carl Tennis, of LaGrange.
