Advice nurse is good advice
To the Editor:
I wanted to join with R.J. Sweatt about his wonderful idea that this area sorely needs an advice nurse or two.
As a nurse, I can’t tell you how many times I am asked about symptoms by acquaintances, to see if they can avoid the cost and time in going to the clinic or ED. Especially in the age of texting photos (of rashes or whatever), this would be an efficient use of healthcare worker and patient time, as well as supplies. Clinic and ED time could be used for the type of patients they were intended for and long wait times would be lessened.
Also, the invaluable experience of seasoned nurses who want to ease out of floor work could be harvested.
Win, win, win, as far as I see it.
