Benefits of TCEDA
To the Editor:
The Tuolumne County Business Council (TCBC) would like to offer an alternative view of Mr. Ken Perkins’ belief that the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority (TCEDA) is an ineffective organization.
TCEDA works daily to create an environment where businesses can thrive. When businesses thrive, they create jobs and investments, which in turn generate additional jobs, investments and tax revenue for our local community. This additional revenue pays for essential services like police, fire, schools and roadways.
Over the past eight years, our county has seen over $126.77 million in investments and 1,200 new jobs. Local businesses such as Sierra Pacific Industries, Adventist Health Sonora, Sonora Armory (Bourbon Barrel/Green Dog Beer Co.), and Rush Creek Resort are just some of the notable economic development projects.
TCEDA is often the first point of contact for new business and has led the way of spurring innovation in Tuolumne County by their creation of the InnovationLab. The InnovationLab is the first step of many to change the future course of our community for the better. However, innovation takes time to formulate breakthrough ideas and create new technologies.
The Tuolumne County Business Council is a diverse group of local business leaders committed to taking an active role in identifying key issues and facilitating positive change that affects economic prosperity in Tuolumne County. We recommend and support responsible policy and programs at the city, county and state level and work to modify and eliminate existing and proposed programs that adversely impact our rural area and quality of life. We agree with our county Board of Supervisors and many Sonora City Council members that investment in the TCEDA has been beneficial to our county.
We recommend the county and the city of Sonora continue to give their full support and backing to TCEDA.
