To the Editor:
I was driving up Stockton Road the other morning and was delighted to see someone had cleared and cleaned much of the vegetation near the creek by the fairgrounds. Thank you.
It reminded me of when I was up in Bend, Oregon, recently and my friend took me to their water park. Ten years or so before, it had been a place of sights and smells and possible danger that most people avoided. Someone organized an effort to clean it up and make it into what it is today. There were hiking trails, beaches, kayaks, restaurants and shops.
I know we don’t have the economic strength of Bend, but I just wanted to share an optimistic view of what is possible in valuing our waterways. Clearing the creekside so we can see it is a start.
